Al-Farhidi Street for Culture and Book in the center of Basra is considered one of the city’s landmarks, an outlet for its people, as well as a gathering place for the city’s intellectuals, writers and poets. The street hosts book fairs, art and sculpture exhibitions among other activities such as poetry and short-story night similar to the activities held in Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad.

Al-Farhidi Street opened again after being restored by the governorate as a place that welcomes all the people in Basra with open arms. It represents the ancient cultural heritage of Basra, which produced many poets, intellectuals and writers.
